Plenty of excavation contractors will quote NDD work because they have a vac truck on the books. The difference between booking one of those operators and booking a dedicated NDD specialist shows up in three places: the documentation, planned dispatch, and the strike record.

Why use an NDD contractor instead of a regular excavator?
Mechanical excavators damage underground services. A single strike on a gas main, water main, fibre cable or electrical conduit costs anywhere from a few thousand dollars to six figures, plus liability, plus the project delay, plus the safety incident. NDD greatly reduces strike risk because water cuts through soil but tends to flow around pipes and cables. On any site with known buried services, the cost of NDD is substantially less than the expected cost of a single strike.
